Venus Retrograde in Capricorn

Hello and welcome.

At the tail-end of 2021, Venus coupled with Capricorn. Together, they began their retrograde journey. For the past three weeks or so, the duo has been inspiring us all to feel — and feel strongly, at that. Now, as we reach the end of their close companionship, the lessons of this period will begin to clarify. If you’ve ever wondered: How does one triumph a Venus retrograde? The answer is awareness.

Venus began its retrograde with Capricorn at 26° and 29′ on December 19, 2021. On January 29, the planet will station direct with Capricorn at 11° and 5′. On March 1, we will be officially out of the woodwork, as Venus’ lengthy post-retrograde shadow will finally lift.

Venus: planet of love, beauty, finances, and aesthetics. This planet rules over the realm of the physically and emotionally desirable. Our wish for certain appearances, our concept of wealth, and our taste in objects (and lovers) can all be attributed to the influence of Venus. As one would imagine, it is rather easy to get carried away with this planet as influence. With Capricorn, this hypnotizing effect will be dulled. The gaze of desire that Venus outfits us with will morph into a practical, inquisitive lens. With the grounded attentiveness of Capricorn, we will be able to see beneath the surface, to the heart of the matter. And we will realize: some things are not what they seem.

This is not to say that a Venusian influence requires alleviation. In fact, Venusian energy, at the most basic level, encourages us to follow our own moral code. This planet reminds us of the values and beliefs that we hold dear, and the sense of personhood and connection that they provide us. And if we do not have a fierce moral code, outfitted with attestable values and beliefs, this planet will push us to develop them. Venus, though aesthetic-powered and physicality-driven, also prizes the intangible. After all, it is feeling that inspires. During this retrograde, do not undermine the influence of emotion, and the power of kinship. With it, what can you accomplish?

Unsurprisingly, Capricorn will have an eye on the achievable. With the input of Venus, this sign will be prompting us to face some difficult realizations. But of course, braving these discomforts will only prove us to be stronger of mind and spirit. Perhaps this period will illuminate to you that you mustn’t be so passive in your relationships — romantic, business, and/or platonic. Perhaps it will reveal to you that something you have invested quite a bit in simply doesn’t work for you. During this period, expressing vulnerability may prove to be a chore. Although there will be no shortage of potential for emotional outbursts, doing so in a productive manner will be a tremendous feat. Don’t beat around the bush, but don’t beat the bush senseless, either. Be as caring as you can in the pursuit of unadulterated honesty.

Needless to say, now is not the time for grand displays of affection (or lack thereof). While you may receive some tremendous insight in regards to your relationships, it may be best to simply maintain what you already have. What happens in a Venus retrograde tends to stay in a Venus retrograde. Use the insightful, reflective nature of this period to your advantage. If you’d like something to be long-lasting, work towards it — don’t rush into it! Luckily, it is easy to lean towards the long-term with Capricorn. Fleeting, finicky pleasures just aren’t their thing.

During this retrograde, work to maintain and improve the connections you already have. Keep your beliefs and values close — but of course, leave room for your curiosity to grow. Brave the discomfort of your personal realizations, big or small. Remember that your awareness of yourself is an irreplaceable resource. Through these realizations, you are gaining coveted interpersonal knowledge. Use this insight to your utmost advantage.
